Glass Birds

Glass Birds

With more than 35 years of experience, glass artist Michel Mailhot is truly a master of his craft. Using glass to express his talent, Mailhot creates much more than just countertops, like this aerial sculpture for example. With a perfect sense of balance, this trio of birds soar with light beneath their wings.

The middle bird is 3" thick and 6' long.

“Working on an embossed portrait required my talents as a sculptor and pushed it to be at its best, while using various materials. I’m very pleased with the precision of the outcome.” - Mailhot

“People run to the Louvre in Paris to admire figures made in plaster, bronze or stone, but never has glass been exposed. Why? It’s a very difficult material to work with and only recently have we been able to develop techniques that truly allow us to bring out the best of its potential. This 4 feet high mural showing Mormon figures was a good challenge: the result is impressive, maybe even impressive enough for the Louvre!” - Mailhot

“Functionality of a lighted floor with the beauty of an art work. I was simply looking to create six paintings, I could say, that would complement each other well.” - Mailhot
